Chris Laich DJ Set Up, Meridian House Washington DC

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

The Meridian House sits right off 16th Street, but you could drive down 16th every day for years and miss it! Secluded and grand while still being gracious, it’s one of our favorite wedding venues in Washington, DC at which to deejay. A handsome limestone façade, high ceilings, sweeping staircase, and a beautiful, high walled garden, you almost feel as if you’ve been transported to someplace in Europe, especially in the elegant Linden Grove. Of course, all that stone and marble can play around with the acoustics!

When Chris Laich Music Services is the DJ for a Meridian House wedding, we pack up all our equipment and a bag of tricks to make sure our clients and their guests have the best sound without all the less-than-attractive cables, wires, and huge speakers on stands.

We carefully set up our wireless Bose speakers and make sure that everything blends seamlessly with the environment without affecting sound quality.

See the images below from a recent wedding we deejayed at the Meridian House to see our equipment set up!

Chris Laich Music DJ Set Up, Woodend Mansion

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

The Woodend Mansion, owned by the Audubon Naturalist Society, in Bethesda, MD is a Maryland wedding venue we’ve deejayed at many times over the years, but we never get tired of how pretty it is!

Near the bustle of downtown Bethesda, Woodend is a hidden jewel. Tucked into grounds that in warmer months is positively sylvan, the mansion is a gracious retreat and perfect for weddings! If the weather is fine, ceremonies are held in an enchanting grove on the grounds, with cocktails and dinner served on the terrace or within the mansion.

In such a bucolic setting, the last thing you want are large speakers and bundles of wires everywhere! So, we always bring our wireless Bose speakers and set them up to ensure they are heard and not seen at Woodend!

We were there recently for a wedding and took a few pictures to show how seamlessly our DJ equipment and wireless Bose speakers fit into Woodend Mansion’s natural environment and elegant rooms.

Chris Laich DJ Set Up, Washington Golf Club

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Country clubs are a great place for weddings. The property is almost always lovely, the grounds meticulously looked after, and the banquet staff a team of bonafied professionals.

The Washington Golf and Country Club has been around since 1894, and its current location in Arlington has all the handsome gravity you’d expect from such an institution.

Though its gracious rooms have been renovated fairly recently, they still retain their classic, country club feel, and there’s ample space for ceremony, cocktails, and the reception to take place indoors and outdoors.

Chris Laich Music Services was the DJ for Ashley and Tom’s wedding at the Washington Golf and Country Club, where we provided sound and music for their reception. We snapped a few pictures (below) of our wireless Bose speakers set up, and as you can see I’m no professional photographer!

Luckily, Gary from Rodney Bailey was Tom and Ashley’s wedding photographer. He did an incredible job capturing their day and just sent me a few shots which I’ll post this Thursday so you can see how amazing Tom and Ashley’s wedding was!

Chris Laich Music Services Equipment Set Up

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Not all the weddings Chris Laich Music Services deejays for are at event venues like hotels, museums, and historic mansions. Some are at private residences!

In these cases, since we’ll be working at a new venue, our experience and one-on-one interaction with our client are critical. Our expertise ensures that Chris Laich Music Services always comes prepared for any situation to provide excellent sound while keeping the visibility of our equipment to a minimum. The relationship we cultivate with our clients means that we know what they expect and always keep their satisfaction a priority.

Chris Laich Music Services provided music for Jessica and Tom’s wedding in The Plains, Virginia at a private, over 200-acre estate. We snapped a few pictures of our wireless Bose speakers set up for cocktails, the reception, and their ceremony.

As you can see, it was a really neat wedding with a cocktail lounge! Of course, our pictures don’t do the wedding, planned by Amy Jones of Engaging Affairs, any justice. Luckily, Greg Gibson, Jessica and Tom’s photographer, sent us some amazing pictures, and we’ll be posting those Thursday!

Cambridge Hyatt at the Chesapeake Bay

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Historic mansions, stately buildings and gracious country estates aren’t the only wedding venues in the Washington, DC area. We’ve got some of the most gorgeous waterfront around, too – Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. The Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay isn’t just your average hotel – it’s also a golf resort, spa, and marina. Right on the Chesapeake Bay, the Hyatt in Cambridge, Maryland is great place for a destination wedding that is just outside DC’s back door.

When Chris Laich Music Service was there a little while ago for an event, we snapped a few shots of our wireless Bose speakers set up for our client’s cocktail hour and reception. As usual, we were careful to keep everything as unobtrusive as possible without compromising sound coverage or clarity, and as you can see our equipment blends right in!

Of course our images aren’t nearly as good as the ones Greg Gibson took – check back this Thursday to see them!

Newton White Mansion Set Up

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

If you’re planning a wedding in Washington, DC and are looking for a historic venue, you’re in the right city!

Built in 1939 and just outside of Washington, DC in Mitchellville, Maryland, Newton White Mansion is a picturesque site for a wedding. Like most historic wedding venues in the area, there’s enough space to host your wedding indoors, outdoors, or a combination of both.

One of the biggest pluses of Newton White Mansion is its huge patio – ideal for an outdoor ceremony. We were there recently and, using our peerless wireless Bose speakers and expertise, provided crystal clear sound!

Check out our speaker and equipment placement below.

St. Regis: Astor Terrace Ceremony Set Up

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Other than the staff and location, one of our favorite things about the St. Regis in Washington, DC as a wedding venue is the Astor Terrace. All towering trees, crisp flagstone, and natural light, it’s a lovely place for a wedding ceremony.

At the St. Regis a few weeks ago, we snapped a picture of the Astor Terrace set up for our client’s ceremony. In such an elegant space, we had to make sure our Bose wireless speakers were out of sight but definitely not out of earshot!

Raspberry Plain Set Up

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

When you envision your wedding day, do you picture gorgeous cathedral ceilings and a room filled with tons of natural light? A historical setting with lovely grounds and mountain views? Raspberry Plain has stood in Leesburg, Virginia since 1771 and is a spectacular historic venue for weddings.

One of the great things about these historic homes with extensive grounds is the fact that, weather permitting or tented, you can have your ceremony, cocktails, and reception in almost any setting indoors or outdoors.

Chris Laich Music Services was at Raspberry Plain recently for a wedding with both an outdoor and indoor reception, and it was amazing! There was a great outside lounge area, and the reception was in the Grand Observatory. With the combination of outdoor/indoor settings, there are a few challenges when providing the music!

Our priority is always making our clients happy, and that includes not affecting the look of their wedding day and giving them and their guests the best sound and experience possible! So, using our wireless Bose speakers and our expertise, we set up our equipment at Raspberry Plain to achieve both.

John Farr Lighting

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

Imagine your wedding venue as a blank canvas. What vibe do you want to give your guests when they arrive and help you celebrate the night away? Of course, décor leaps to mind, and one of the most dramatic transformations you can make is lighting!

We’ve seen John Farr and his company, John Farr Lighting Design, turn an ordinary space into an extraordinary one with well placed uplighting and amazing gobo lights that do more than just illuminate initials on the dance floor – they can project texture like lace and palm trees on the walls and ceiling! Watching John and his team work their magic is truly something to behold.

John used to tour with and handle lighting for names like Rick James and Hall and Oates, and in 1988, he was traveling with Gladys Knight. In fact, it was July 1, 1988 when he was here in DC when he started talking to some guys from the DC Fire Department and found out they were hiring. By December that year, he had stopped touring and was working as an EMT for DCFD, and doing lighting on his days off!

In 2003, he was assigned to the day shift, but his lighting business on the side was taking off. Since he was riding the truck during the day, he couldn’t help his lighting clients, so he threw himself into the lighting business full time and hasn’t looked back.

We’re glad he did because he’s a pleasure to work with. His years delivering babies and saving lives has given him a perspective that keeps him stress-free and happy on wedding day set-ups. He’s a firm believer that weddings are times of joy and that we should all have fun, even if we’re there to work. It’s a day for all to celebrate, and there’s very little on a day like that to get bent out of shape about.

John also recently told us he’s a firm believer in not gouging his customers, which all of us at Chris Laich Music Services couldn’t agree with more. When his brides and grooms make lighting requests, if John feels it’s not necessary, he’ll tell them and ask them to reconsider since they’d just be wasting their money.

Back in the ‘70s, when he was a kid doing lighting for local bands in his hometown of Erie, PA, bands used to do what’s called a show set and a dancing set. He and the band would come up with choreographed scenes for the show set that combined the music, moves lighting, and special effects for a real showstopper. He’d love to do that for a wedding! Can you imagine a lighting scheme that evolves and changes during the first dance, along with special effects to make it seem as though the couple is floating on a cloud?

Sounds pretty amazing, right? So, if you’re looking for some extra magic and wow factor on your wedding day, lighting might just be the thing!

Four Seasons in Georgetown Set Up

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Ensconced in Georgetown and overlooking Rock Creek Park and the C&O Canal, the Four Seasons Hotel is a truly elegant space for a wedding!

The inside is a wonderful mix of sumptuous classic meets modern, resulting in a tranquil, airy, and handsome wedding venue. Not to mention it’s a five-star, five-diamond hotel, so you and your guests will be looked after like royalty.

As you know, some of the best service is so professional you barely notice cuisine being served and plates being cleared. At Chris Laich Music Services, we feel the same way about DJ services. Not about the music, of course – that’s got to be as clear and perfect as possible! We mean the equipment. We achieve that by placing our wireless Bose speakers carefully within the Four Seasons ballrooms.

While at the Four Seasons in Georgetown for a recent wedding, we snapped a few pictures to show you!
