Strathmore Hall Wedding DJ Playlist

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.and it’s true. One shot of a first dance or a mid-wedding reception dance frenzy can capture the moment. But what, you may ask yourself as you gaze at the picture of people getting down, did the wedding DJ sound like?

Well, now you’ll have your answer! While deejaying a wedding recently at Strathmore Hall, we noted the playlist and created the audio sample below:

Behind the {Wedding} Music – Christine & Jason

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Almost every aspect of a couple’s wedding reflects who they are. Personality is expressed trough the invitation, cake, décor, stationery…and, of course, the ambiance heavy hitter, music!

In addition to their first dance, father/daughter, and mother/son song choices, many of our clients add one of a kind, memorable flavor with music meaningful to them.

When Christine and Jason were planning their wedding, they knew they wanted to honor their Italian heritage with traditional Italian music. We were only too happy to oblige! So, after the guests enjoyed dinner, we kicked things off with a Tarantella, a traditional Italian folk dance. The floor was swamped in a flash, and the dancing didn’t stop until the end of the night!

We’ll be sharing more of how our couples personalized their wedding playlists, so check back soon for our next Behind the (Wedding) Music!

First Dance Feature – Alia & Daniel

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Some first dances combine flashy moves with a sweet tune.

During the lessons Alia and Daniel took, they choreographed their steps to Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel.” They must have practiced lots and lots – the resulting first dance was absolutely sensational!

Read more about Alia and Daniel’s fun wedding planned by Amy Jones of Engaging Affairs at the Mandarin Oriental.

Father-Daughter Dance Feature – Hilary

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

A father-daughter dance is by no means a requirement at a wedding. At Chris Laich Music Services, we’ve definitely deejayed our share of celebrations without one!

If you are planning to have a father-daughter dance, choosing the song can feel just as difficult as making your first dance tune selection. Similar to the first dance, the choice you make is entirely personal – there’s no real right or wrong.

We thought it might help planning couples to consider their options by sharing what others have chosen.

Hilary and Garth’s entire wedding at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens was special, but when Hilary danced with her father to “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw, it was a really sweet moment.

With lyrics like this, it’s almost impossible not to get a little choked up!

“You’re beautiful baby from the outside in Chase your dreams but always know the road that’ll lead you home again Go on, take on this whole world But to me you know you’ll always be, my little girl.”

First Dance Feature – Kelly & David

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Remember Kelly and David’s vintage-inspired wedding at The Top of the Hay?

This couple’s eclectic, retro aesthetic influenced everything – including the music! After cocktails, when Kelly and David were introduced as a couple, we played hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco’s “Superstar”.

Then they took the floor to ‘60s crooner Bobby Darrin’s classic “I’m Beginning to See the Light”!

Later in the evening, everyone had a blast watching a belly dancer perform while the Zafe band played. After that, they were more than ready to celebrate! The crowd exploded onto the dance floor for a crazy dance party, rocking out all night to music by Journey, The Commodores, The Four Seasons, Ke$ha, Usher, House of Pain, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias, Justin Timberlake, Outkast, Rob Base, DJ Kook, Miley Cyrus, and some cool Bhangra music!

Wedding at Halcyon House – Kevin & Melissa

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

You’ve seen the images of our DJ equipment set up for weddings at the Halcyon House, but there’s nothing like pictures from a pro to show off a space. Thanks to Michelle Lindsay, we’ve got some to share!

Starting with a beautiful ceremony in the garden, Kevin and Melissa’s wedding at the Halcyon House was gorgeous. After the couple said ‘I do,’ their guests enjoyed cocktails in the garden before marking their way inside for the reception in the house.

Everyone knew it was going to be an awesome night when the bridal party was introduced to the theme from Superman!

Once we played the last songs of the night ( “Beautiful World” by Colin Hay and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing”), the crowd wasn’t ready to call it a night. Luckily, Melissa and Kevin knew their friends and family would want to keep celebrating, so the couple had organized an after party at Georgetown hot spot Mie N Yu, where we’re sure they shut the place down!

First Dance Feature: Tom & Jessica

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Timeless doesn’t have to mean the Rat Pack when it comes to first dance songs. Jessica and Tom stepped on the dance floor and moved to the sound of James Blunt’s “High.”

With lyrics like “Will you be my shoulder when I’m grey and older? Promise me tomorrow starts with you,” it’s easy to see why this modern song is also sure to become a classic first dance choice!

Many thanks to Greg Gibson for sharing his images of Jessica and Tom’s first dance!

The Vera Wang show was just beautiful, and the area’s top wedding professionals did a fantastic job providing couples with advice and inspiration. Everything from the marvelous confections by Kendall’s Cakes (another “Top Vote Getter”) to the event design displayed by A. Dominick Events and Beehive Events was really spectacular.

The Mic Sounds Nice

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

As a wedding DJ, you have to love music, people, and be a little bit of an equipment geek, and we have that in spades!

Chris Laich Music Services is the only wedding DJ in the Washington, DC area to pair the premium sound delivery through wireless Bose speakers with a killer microphone – the Shure KSM9.

We knew the mics we have are the best around, but it wasn’t until flipping through Entertainment Weekly that we realized how good.

If you look closely, 70% of the performers in the images are using the same exact mic Chris uses. It must be decent if some of the best singers in the world have chosen it!
