DJ Set Up at in the Old Ebbitt Grill’s Atrium

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Old Ebbitt Grill has been a part of Washington, DC since 1856!

Its original location somewhere near Chinatown is long gone, but its current location in the Beaux-Arts building on 15th Street retains its DC landmark character. Known as a great place for dinner, drinks, or to enjoy oysters, Old Ebbitt Grill is also a great place for an event, offering several areas that can accommodate a private celebration, including a rooftop terrace and an atrium.

With a high ceiling, wall-to-wall marble floors, a scattering of palm trees and large central fountain, the Atrium is an impressive space. However, the very things that make it beautiful add to the challenge of getting sound just right. Arranging things so every song and speech is heard clearly without getting lost in the ambient sound takes experience and quality equipment. Fortunately, Chris Laich Music Services has both. Recently, we were at Old Ebbitt Grill for an event, and took a moment to take a couple pictures (see below) of our wireless Bose speakers set up in the Atrium before getting to work!

First Dance Feature: Adrienne & Daniel

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

Not everyone chooses a slow, classic song oozing romance for their first time as a married couple on the dance floor.

The first dance song at Adrienne and Daniel’s wedding at the Chesapeake Bay Hyatt in Cambridge, MD, foreshadowed the party on the dance floor yet to come.

They rocked out to the sound of “Please Baby” by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, while one of DC’s finest wedding photographers, Greg Gibson, documented how much fun they had!

Hilton Arlington – Wedding DJ Equipment Set up

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Chris Laich Music Services deejays weddings all over the Washington, DC area, a good portion of which are in hotels. Super convenient for out of town guests and often boasting a seasoned catering staff, hotels are always a great choice for a wedding!

Especially when the hotel is located in a really great area.

The Arlington Hilton is close to DC, but, even better, wedding guests have access to all the great restaurants, bars and shops in Ballston! Plus, it has a generous amount of event space to host both ceremonies and receptions.

We were there recently to deejay a wedding as well as provide sound for the ceremony, and we snapped a few pictures of our wireless Bose speakers to share with you (see below)!

First Dance Feature – Tom and Ashley

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

Choosing a first dance song is such a personal thing, and over the years, Chris Laich Music Services has deejayed Washington, DC area weddings, we’ve covered almost every genre.

It’s always fun to see what every couple we work with picks! We thought it would be nice for planning couples to see what tunes others have stepped out on the dance floor to for their first official dance as a married couple.

Thus inspired, we’ve created a new “First Dance Feature.” A few times a month, we’ll profile Chris Laich Music Services couples and share their first dance song choice with you, starting with Tom and Ashley.

Tom and Ashley celebrated their marriage at the Washington Golf Club, and chose “Sea Breeze” by Tyrone Wells, a sweet, folk-pop song with really romantic guitar.

Gary, a documentary photography associate at Rodney Bailey, did an amazing job capturing the moment!

Hilton Alexandria Old Town – Wedding DJ Set Up

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Old Town Alexandria has got to be one of the most charming areas outside of Washington, DC to get married! The pleasant streets and historic buildings provide great atmosphere, while its proximity to the city make Old Town a haven for some really great hotels. One of which is the Hilton Alexandria Old Town.

Right in the heart of Old Town, the Hilton has a handsome ballroom made for an elegant wedding reception. Throughout the hotel, there are various event spaces for cocktails, along with a pretty little courtyard perfect for an outdoor ceremony.

The courtyard is an unexpected gem, and when Chris Laich Music Services is managing the music and sound for events there, we work hard to keep the ambiance intimate. Our wireless Bose speakers keep us out of sight while providing perfect, natural sound.

We were at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town recently and snuck a few shots of our equipment set up in their courtyard so you could have a look (below)!

Wedding DJ Set Up – Outside at Meadowlark Gardens

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

As you know from our earlier post about Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, it’s a fantastic place for a DC wedding. The setting is spectacular, and there are several different spaces on the property that can be utilized for a wedding ceremony and reception.

When weather permits, ceremonies held in the gardens surrounding Meadowlark’s Atrium are really special. In our last post about the venue, we focused on our set-up indoors. This time, we thought we’d share an example of an outside scenario.

It can be somewhat of a challenge to maintain the space’s natural beauty while making sure guests don’t miss a word. That’s when our wireless Bose speakers and experience come in handy!

Chris Laich Music Services works there about 30 times a year and recently provided sound for a wedding ceremony at the venue. Below are a few images showing how unobtrusive our equipment is at Meadowlark.

Wedding DJ Set Up – Indigo Landing

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

With all the monuments, hotels, mansions, and history in Washington, DC, it’s easy to forget the Potomac River offers some pretty spectacular wedding spaces along its banks. One of which is Indigo Landing in Alexandria, VA. Between the views and Indigo Landing’s super professional event manager Katherine Turner, it’s a fantastic spot for a celebration!

Chris Laich Music Services was recently at there for a wedding, and before we got started we stole a few moments to snap some shots of our wireless Bose speakers set up in the Charleston Room, where most weddings are held. While the windows in the space are great for natural light and seeing the sights, they also can make speaker placement tricky. Leaving one right in the middle of somebody’s line of sight as they gaze across the water would not do! So, we strategically placed them to provide great sound without creating an eyesore (see our equipment set up at Indigo Landing in the images below).

Wedding DJ Set Up – Halcyon House Washington, DC

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Wendy, Halcyon’s event manager, allows only approved wedding professionals on site to ensure her couples stay happy and the property remains handsome. Chris Laich Music Services is proud to be a part of Halcyon’s exclusive group. Working with Wendy at her beautiful site is a pleasure, though it does have its challenges.

While Halcyon House has been refurbished, it is still a centuries-old building. Care must be taken to protect it while also exceeding our client’s expectations of sound quality. Additionally, it’s key to keep our equipment as invisible as possible. Who wants big bulky speakers and vines of wires everywhere?

Our experience at Halcyon House combined with our expertise comes in handy when setting up our wireless Bose speakers and other DJ equipment. To see what our set up at Halcyon House looks like, have a look at the images below!

Wedding DJ Set Up – The Hay Adams

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

Every time we spy the White House while pulling up to the Hay-Adams Hotel to deejay a wedding, we get excited. You’d think that living in the DC area the President’s house would get old, but it never does!

No matter their size, weddings at the Hay-Adams always seem intimate, as if they’re being thrown in a private home.  Maybe that’s because the Hay-Adams has been entertaining the movers and shakers in Washington, DC since the 1800s!  Or it could be because of Alison, the Hay-Adams’s Director of Catering.  She is one of the most genuine, sweet, and helpful ladies in the entire industry, and all of our brides rave about the time they spend with her!

Whatever the reason, Chris Laich Music Services is always careful to make sure the only things anyone notices are great music and quality sound, not unsightly speakers, wires, or disturbing feedback.  By strategically placing our wireless Bose speakers, we achieve the perfect balance of ambiance and aesthetic.

Have a look at some pictures we snapped of our speakers set up for a recent wedding at the Hay-Adams below:
