First Dance Feature – Alia & Daniel

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Some first dances combine flashy moves with a sweet tune.

During the lessons Alia and Daniel took, they choreographed their steps to Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel.” They must have practiced lots and lots – the resulting first dance was absolutely sensational!

First Dance Feature – Kelly & David

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Remember Kelly and David’s vintage-inspired wedding at The Top of the Hay?

This couple’s eclectic, retro aesthetic influenced everything – including the music! After cocktails, when Kelly and David were introduced as a couple, we played hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco’s “Superstar”.

Then they took the floor to ‘60s crooner Bobby Darrin’s classic “I’m Beginning to See the Light”!

The energy that night at the Mandarin Oriental was already off the charts as Alia and Daniel were escorted into the ballroom by a Zafe band. So, when they wowed us with a choreographed first dance to Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel,” it was sensational!

Later in the evening, everyone had a blast watching a belly dancer perform while the Zafe band played. After that, they were more than ready to celebrate! The crowd exploded onto the dance floor for a crazy dance party, rocking out all night to music by Journey, The Commodores, The Four Seasons, Ke$ha, Usher, House of Pain, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias, Justin Timberlake, Outkast, Rob Base, DJ Kook, Miley Cyrus, and some cool Bhangra music!

Dance Like Fred & Ginger

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

If you’re planning a wedding, chances are you’ll be dancing!

The problem is your specialty is the side-to-side shuffle.

One solution for couples is to take dance classes. They are fun and a great excuse to go out and do something other than dinner and a movie.

Another option is to learn a few new moves from your iPhone! Yes, there is an app for that.

For classic dances you might find in a ballroom like the Waltz or Foxtrot, check out Learn to Waltz and Learn to Foxtrot.

Feeling something more spicy is in order? Try Pocket Salsa or Learn to Swing Dance!

Check out the first dance songs choices of couples who’ve worked with Chris Laich Music Services.

Wedding at Halcyon House – Kevin & Melissa

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

You’ve seen the images of our DJ equipment set up for weddings at the Halcyon House, but there’s nothing like pictures from a pro to show off a space. Thanks to Michelle Lindsay, we’ve got some to share!

Starting with a beautiful ceremony in the garden, Kevin and Melissa’s wedding at the Halcyon House was gorgeous. After the couple said ‘I do,’ their guests enjoyed cocktails in the garden before marking their way inside for the reception in the house.

Everyone knew it was going to be an awesome night when the bridal party was introduced to the theme from Superman!

Once we played the last songs of the night ( “Beautiful World” by Colin Hay and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing”), the crowd wasn’t ready to call it a night. Luckily, Melissa and Kevin knew their friends and family would want to keep celebrating, so the couple had organized an after party at Georgetown hot spot Mie N Yu, where we’re sure they shut the place down!

First Dance Feature: Tom & Jessica

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Timeless doesn’t have to mean the Rat Pack when it comes to first dance songs. Jessica and Tom stepped on the dance floor and moved to the sound of James Blunt’s “High.”

With lyrics like “Will you be my shoulder when I’m grey and older? Promise me tomorrow starts with you,” it’s easy to see why this modern song is also sure to become a classic first dance choice!

Many thanks to Greg Gibson for sharing his images of Jessica and Tom’s first dance!

First Dance Feature: Adrienne & Daniel

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

Not everyone chooses a slow, classic song oozing romance for their first time as a married couple on the dance floor.

The first dance song at Adrienne and Daniel’s wedding at the Chesapeake Bay Hyatt in Cambridge, MD, foreshadowed the party on the dance floor yet to come.

They rocked out to the sound of “Please Baby” by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, while one of DC’s finest wedding photographers, Greg Gibson, documented how much fun they had!

First Dance Feature – Tom and Ashley

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

Choosing a first dance song is such a personal thing, and over the years, Chris Laich Music Services has deejayed Washington, DC area weddings, we’ve covered almost every genre.

It’s always fun to see what every couple we work with picks! We thought it would be nice for planning couples to see what tunes others have stepped out on the dance floor to for their first official dance as a married couple.

Thus inspired, we’ve created a new “First Dance Feature.” A few times a month, we’ll profile Chris Laich Music Services couples and share their first dance song choice with you, starting with Tom and Ashley.

Tom and Ashley celebrated their marriage at the Washington Golf Club, and chose “Sea Breeze” by Tyrone Wells, a sweet, folk-pop song with really romantic guitar.

Gary, a documentary photography associate at Rodney Bailey, did an amazing job capturing the moment!

Wedding DJ Set Up – The Hay Adams

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

Every time we spy the White House while pulling up to the Hay-Adams Hotel to deejay a wedding, we get excited. You’d think that living in the DC area the President’s house would get old, but it never does!

No matter their size, weddings at the Hay-Adams always seem intimate, as if they’re being thrown in a private home.  Maybe that’s because the Hay-Adams has been entertaining the movers and shakers in Washington, DC since the 1800s!  Or it could be because of Alison, the Hay-Adams’s Director of Catering.  She is one of the most genuine, sweet, and helpful ladies in the entire industry, and all of our brides rave about the time they spend with her!

Whatever the reason, Chris Laich Music Services is always careful to make sure the only things anyone notices are great music and quality sound, not unsightly speakers, wires, or disturbing feedback.  By strategically placing our wireless Bose speakers, we achieve the perfect balance of ambiance and aesthetic.

Have a look at some pictures we snapped of our speakers set up for a recent wedding at the Hay-Adams below:

Planned by easily one of the area’s best, Amy Jones from Engaging Affairs, every detail of Tom and Jessica’s modern, chic wedding (with a dash of Arabian Nights) came together perfectly. Held on an over  200-acre piece of property complete with a polo field, the cocktail reception was off the pool and dinner was served in a four-car garage converted into a sleek dining room for the night.

Tom & Jessica’s first dance to Jame Blunt, DJ Chris Laich Music Services image by Greg Gibson

Jessica and Tom’s first dance was to the tune of “High” by James Blunt, and for the rest of the night, we played music to suit their fun, sophisticated crowd.

The lounge vibe of the wedding’s cocktail reception and dinner called for an urbane, polished sound. So, we spun classics from Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Van Morrison, and Ray Charles, mixed in St. Germaine, Thievery Corporation, and Moby, then layered it with David Gray, Eva Cassidy, and Ben Harper.

Once everyone was ready to get down, we deejayed our hearts out with a great mix of some ‘70s rock, disco, ‘80s pop, and some newer hip-hop/club tunes.
