First Dance Feature – Alia & Daniel

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Some first dances combine flashy moves with a sweet tune.

During the lessons Alia and Daniel took, they choreographed their steps to Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel.” They must have practiced lots and lots – the resulting first dance was absolutely sensational!

Corporate Executive Board Employee Event

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Corporate Executive Board provides resources, tools and support to business executives across the globe. In short, the company is a font of knowledge for those in the business world.

They also know a lot about throwing a great bash!

A few weeks ago, Chris Laich Music Services was asked to deejay an employee appreciation event at their Arlington, VA headquarters. To give their space a cool Hollywood feel to go with their ‘red carpet’ theme, the Corporate Executive Board brought in lounge furniture, stocked their open bar with swanky cocktails, and had an area for photos!

We added color to all that ambiance with a mix of club and pop music throughout two floors using 10 of our wireless Bose speakers.

It looked like everyone had a blast, and so did we!

Father-Daughter Dance Feature – Hilary

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

A father-daughter dance is by no means a requirement at a wedding. At Chris Laich Music Services, we’ve definitely deejayed our share of celebrations without one!

If you are planning to have a father-daughter dance, choosing the song can feel just as difficult as making your first dance tune selection. Similar to the first dance, the choice you make is entirely personal – there’s no real right or wrong.

We thought it might help planning couples to consider their options by sharing what others have chosen.

Hilary and Garth’s entire wedding at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens was special, but when Hilary danced with her father to “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw, it was a really sweet moment.

With lyrics like this, it’s almost impossible not to get a little choked up!

“You’re beautiful baby from the outside in Chase your dreams but always know the road that’ll lead you home again Go on, take on this whole world But to me you know you’ll always be, my little girl.”

Junior League of Washington’s Tossed & Found Event

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

The Junior League of Washington’s (JLW) annual Spring fundraiser Tossed & Found is a great event! Held at the Crystal City Shops, it’s like a three-day estate sale, except all the proceeds benefit literacy programs.

To kick off Tossed & Found, there was an auction and preview night (this year called Hoops and High Heels) where guests could bid on prizes like Caps tickets or even a $500 certificate toward a bridal gown at Hitched in Georgetown.

Of course, no cocktail party or auction is complete without entertainment, and Chris Laich Music Services was proud to donate both!

Remember this vintage-inspired wedding at The Top of the Hay?

This couple’s eclectic, retro aesthetic influenced everything – including the music! After cocktails, when they were introduced as a couple, we played hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco’s “Superstar”.

Then they took the floor to ‘60s crooner Bobby Darrin’s classic “I’m Beginning to See the Light”!

The energy that night at the Mandarin Oriental was already off the charts as Alia and Daniel were escorted into the ballroom by a Zafe band. So, when they wowed us with a choreographed first dance to Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel,” it was sensational!

The crowd exploded onto the dance floor for a crazy dance party, rocking out all night to music by Journey, The Commodores, The Four Seasons, Ke$ha, Usher, House of Pain, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias, Justin Timberlake, Outkast, Rob Base, DJ Kook, Miley Cyrus, and some cool Bhangra music!

Dance Like Fred & Ginger

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

If you’re planning a wedding, chances are you’ll be dancing!

The problem is your specialty is the side-to-side shuffle.

One solution for couples is to take dance classes. They are fun and a great excuse to go out and do something other than dinner and a movie.

Another option is to learn a few new moves from your iPhone! Yes, there is an app for that.

For classic dances you might find in a ballroom like the Waltz or Foxtrot, check out Learn to Waltz and Learn to Foxtrot.

Feeling something more spicy is in order? Try Pocket Salsa or Learn to Swing Dance!

Wedding at Meadowlark Gardens – Hilary & Garth

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Hilary and Garth planned their wedding at Meadowlark Gardens all the way from Utah. Organizing a wedding is never easy, but doing it from across the country…we feel tired just thinking about it!

After all that work, on their December 4 wedding day, Hilary and Garth were more than ready to celebrate! Following their cocktail hour, the bridal party was announced to The Cure’s “Just like Heaven,” while the couple waited their turn in the wings.

Before they knew it, Hilary and Garth were center stage dancing to Shania Twain’s “Still the One” as husband and wife. Once the dinner plates were cleared, everyone flooded the dance floor for a huge dance party! To keep the crowd going, we played tracks from Glenn Miller, Otis Knight, ABBA, Madonna, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, Usher, and Pink.
