First Dance Feature – Courtney & Jeff

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

A non-traditional song choice doesn’t mean it is strange, especially when it suits your style.

When Courtney and Jeff hit the dance floor at Halcyon House for the first time as husband and wife, it was to Al Green’s “Love and Happiness.” Al Green is one of their favorite artists, and they wanted a song that they could groove to!

Read more about Courtney and Jeff’s wedding, or other couples’ first dance songs.

Wedding at Halcyon House – Kevin & Melissa

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

You’ve seen the images of our DJ equipment set up for weddings at the Halcyon House, but there’s nothing like pictures from a pro to show off a space. Thanks to Michelle Lindsay, we’ve got some to share!

Starting with a beautiful ceremony in the garden, Kevin and Melissa’s wedding at the Halcyon House was gorgeous. After the couple said ‘I do,’ their guests enjoyed cocktails in the garden before marking their way inside for the reception in the house.

Everyone knew it was going to be an awesome night when the bridal party was introduced to the theme from Superman!

Once we played the last songs of the night ( “Beautiful World” by Colin Hay and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing”), the crowd wasn’t ready to call it a night. Luckily, Melissa and Kevin knew their friends and family would want to keep celebrating, so the couple had organized an after party at Georgetown hot spot Mie N Yu, where we’re sure they shut the place down!

Wedding at The Top of The Hay

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

Last week, we shared details on the set up of our wireless Bose speakers and DJ equipment at one of DC’s most fashionable event venues, the Top of the Hay. It’s such a magical space that we’ve been waiting to see professional pictures from the weddings we’ve been a part of since its renovation. We were so excited when Procopio Photography posted these!

The Top of the Hay’s beautiful space and spectacular views of the White House were a stunning backdrop to this couple’s wedding, from cake cutting to the celebration on the dance floor.

DJ Set Up at in the Old Ebbitt Grill’s Atrium

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Old Ebbitt Grill has been a part of Washington, DC since 1856!

Its original location somewhere near Chinatown is long gone, but its current location in the Beaux-Arts building on 15th Street retains its DC landmark character. Known as a great place for dinner, drinks, or to enjoy oysters, Old Ebbitt Grill is also a great place for an event, offering several areas that can accommodate a private celebration, including a rooftop terrace and an atrium.

With a high ceiling, wall-to-wall marble floors, a scattering of palm trees and large central fountain, the Atrium is an impressive space. However, the very things that make it beautiful add to the challenge of getting sound just right. Arranging things so every song and speech is heard clearly without getting lost in the ambient sound takes experience and quality equipment. Fortunately, Chris Laich Music Services has both. Recently, we were at Old Ebbitt Grill for an event, and took a moment to take a couple pictures (see below) of our wireless Bose speakers set up in the Atrium before getting to work!

Top of the Hay – Wedding DJ Equipment Set Up

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

The newly renovated Top of the Hay at the Hay-Adams Hotel is the hottest new wedding venue in DC. With spectacular, unparalleled panoramic views (it’s the closest building to the White House) and even more stellar service, it’s an incredible space for a wedding or any other special event. Not to mention that, on site, Alison, Amanda, and Jenny deliver absolutely flawless events and could easily be the best team in town!

Chris Laich Music Services performed the first three weddings at the Top of The Hay, and it’s a space that certainly requires a thorough knowledge of equipment placement. As you can see from the images, our wireless Bose speakers are perfect for the room and its guests – unobtrusive while providing unparalleled sound.

First Dance Feature: Adrienne & Daniel

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

Not everyone chooses a slow, classic song oozing romance for their first time as a married couple on the dance floor.

The first dance song at Adrienne and Daniel’s wedding at the Chesapeake Bay Hyatt in Cambridge, MD, foreshadowed the party on the dance floor yet to come.

They rocked out to the sound of “Please Baby” by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, while one of DC’s finest wedding photographers, Greg Gibson, documented how much fun they had!

Hilton Arlington – Wedding DJ Equipment Set up

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Chris Laich Music Services deejays weddings all over the Washington, DC area, a good portion of which are in hotels. Super convenient for out of town guests and often boasting a seasoned catering staff, hotels are always a great choice for a wedding!

Especially when the hotel is located in a really great area.

The Arlington Hilton is close to DC, but, even better, wedding guests have access to all the great restaurants, bars and shops in Ballston! Plus, it has a generous amount of event space to host both ceremonies and receptions.

We were there recently to deejay a wedding as well as provide sound for the ceremony, and we snapped a few pictures of our wireless Bose speakers to share with you (see below)!

First Dance Feature – Tom and Ashley

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

Choosing a first dance song is such a personal thing, and over the years, Chris Laich Music Services has deejayed Washington, DC area weddings, we’ve covered almost every genre.

It’s always fun to see what every couple we work with picks! We thought it would be nice for planning couples to see what tunes others have stepped out on the dance floor to for their first official dance as a married couple.

Thus inspired, we’ve created a new “First Dance Feature.” A few times a month, we’ll profile Chris Laich Music Services couples and share their first dance song choice with you, starting with Tom and Ashley.

Tom and Ashley celebrated their marriage at the Washington Golf Club, and chose “Sea Breeze” by Tyrone Wells, a sweet, folk-pop song with really romantic guitar.

Gary, a documentary photography associate at Rodney Bailey, did an amazing job capturing the moment!

Deb Lindsey – Documentary Wedding Photography

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

At every wedding we deejay, Chris Laich Music Services has the opportunity to work with the finest wedding vendors in Washington, DC! It’s a pleasure watching other industry pros at work, especially photographers.

Deb Lindsey is an amazing wedding photographer, not only because her work is spectacular, but also because she is such a professional! We’re always thrilled to see Deb on site, and love working with her.

We recently caught up with Deb for a quick on-site interview to give you the skinny!

CL: Why shoot weddings?

Deb: Weddings tell a great story—beginning, middle and end—in the space of one day. Everyone is beautiful, happy, emotional and nicely dressed. The wonderful moments are all right there, waiting to be shot. After years of working for newspapers, including 17 years at the Washington Post, it’s nice to be involved in so much joy.

CL: What do you look for at a wedding?

Deb: First and foremost, it’s the relationship between the couple. I’m looking for their interaction on the most important day of their life. To show their love, their friends and families and all the special touches that made up their wedding day. My job is to preserve those moments so that years from now those photos are their memories. I’ve been married for 15 years and still have three photos from my wedding day up in my home. Those are the shots I’m always looking for on a client’s wedding day.

CL: Do you have a favorite type of wedding to photograph?

Deb: Not really. I shoot everywhere—hotels, resorts, beaches, riverfronts, historic mansions, churches, synagogues—wherever someone is getting married. To me, the best weddings have those special touches that make the day completely unique to the couple. That can be anything from a heartwarming toasts, a special father-daughter dance or a funny ceremony. Tears are always good! Each wedding I cover has those unique elements that keep it fresh for me.

CL: How do you work during a wedding?

Deb: My goal at every wedding for most of the day is to be as close to a fly on the wall as possible. I don’t want to influence events as they happen, although I’m not above moving a chair or table to make a prettier shot. During formal portraits and what I call “spontaneous couple portraits” I’ll find a lovely setting with fabulous light and put the couple there to interact naturally…hug, kiss, laugh. I will shoot with a longer lens and the end result looks like it happened naturally! That’s what I do with engagement shoots as well. The best photos really come from the couple’s chemistry—that’s always what I’m looking for.
