Deb Lindsey is an amazing wedding photographer, not only because her work is spectacular, but also because she is such a professional! We’re always thrilled to see Deb on site, and love working with her.
We recently caught up with Deb for a quick on-site interview to give you the skinny!

CL: Why shoot weddings?
Deb: Weddings tell a great story—beginning, middle and end—in the space of one day. Everyone is beautiful, happy, emotional and nicely dressed. The wonderful moments are all right there, waiting to be shot. After years of working for newspapers, including 17 years at the Washington Post, it’s nice to be involved in so much joy.

CL: What do you look for at a wedding?
Deb: First and foremost, it’s the relationship between the couple. I’m looking for their interaction on the most important day of their life. To show their love, their friends and families and all the special touches that made up their wedding day. My job is to preserve those moments so that years from now those photos are their memories. I’ve been married for 15 years and still have three photos from my wedding day up in my home. Those are the shots I’m always looking for on a client’s wedding day.

CL: Do you have a favorite type of wedding to photograph?
Deb: Not really. I shoot everywhere—hotels, resorts, beaches, riverfronts, historic mansions, churches, synagogues—wherever someone is getting married. To me, the best weddings have those special touches that make the day completely unique to the couple. That can be anything from a heartwarming toasts, a special father-daughter dance or a funny ceremony. Tears are always good! Each wedding I cover has those unique elements that keep it fresh for me.

CL: How do you work during a wedding?
Deb: My goal at every wedding for most of the day is to be as close to a fly on the wall as possible. I don’t want to influence events as they happen, although I’m not above moving a chair or table to make a prettier shot. During formal portraits and what I call “spontaneous couple portraits” I’ll find a lovely setting with fabulous light and put the couple there to interact naturally…hug, kiss, laugh. I will shoot with a longer lens and the end result looks like it happened naturally! That’s what I do with engagement shoots as well. The best photos really come from the couple’s chemistry—that’s always what I’m looking for.
