Chris Laich DJ Set Up, Washington Golf Club

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Country clubs are a great place for weddings. The property is almost always lovely, the grounds meticulously looked after, and the banquet staff a team of bonafied professionals.

The Washington Golf and Country Club has been around since 1894, and its current location in Arlington has all the handsome gravity you’d expect from such an institution.

Though its gracious rooms have been renovated fairly recently, they still retain their classic, country club feel, and there’s ample space for ceremony, cocktails, and the reception to take place indoors and outdoors.

Chris Laich Music Services was the DJ for Ashley and Tom’s wedding at the Washington Golf and Country Club, where we provided sound and music for their reception. We snapped a few pictures (below) of our wireless Bose speakers set up, and as you can see I’m no professional photographer!

Luckily, Gary from Rodney Bailey was Tom and Ashley’s wedding photographer. He did an incredible job capturing their day and just sent me a few shots which I’ll post this Thursday so you can see how amazing Tom and Ashley’s wedding was!

Remember our DJ equipment and wireless Bose set-up for a wedding in The Plains, Virginia earlier this week? Jessica and Tom’s photographer, Greg Gibson, sent us his amazing shots of the wedding!

Planned by easily one of the area’s best, Amy Jones from Engaging Affairs, every detail of Tom and Jessica’s modern, chic wedding (with a dash of Arabian Nights) came together perfectly. Held on an over  200-acre piece of property complete with a polo field, the cocktail reception was off the pool and dinner was served in a four-car garage converted into a sleek dining room for the night.

Jessica and Tom’s first dance was to the tune of “High” by James Blunt, and for the rest of the night, we played music to suit their fun, sophisticated crowd.

The lounge vibe of the wedding’s cocktail reception and dinner called for an urbane, polished sound. So, we spun classics from Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Van Morrison, and Ray Charles, mixed in St. Germaine, Thievery Corporation, and Moby, then layered it with David Gray, Eva Cassidy, and Ben Harper.

Once everyone was ready to get down, we deejayed our hearts out with a great mix of some ‘70s rock, disco, ‘80s pop, and some newer hip-hop/club tunes.

Happy Holidays!

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

This year, we asked my great friend, photographer Kurstin Roe, to come up to Olney and take some shots of us.

He did an amazing job!

Which doesn’t surprise me at all, since Kurstin’s background in photojournalism includes directing the photography and imaging during President Bush’s re-election campaign in 2004 as it traveled to cities across the country via Air Force One. After that, he continued with the White House photographing President Bush, the First Lady, and the Vice President. Needless to say, working in such a demanding environment honed his skill for capturing the moment and producing great shots.

It also burned him out. So, when he ran into a wedding photographer friend who encouraged him to give wedding photography a try in 2006, Kurstin took the advice. That wedding changed everything. Kurstin was totally hooked. All the joy, laughter, and emotion of weddings inspires him and gives him goosebumps every time.

We’re lucky that chance meeting brought Kurstin into wedding photography! He’s super talented, and definitely one of Washington, DC’s up and coming wedding photographers.

Thanks for taking the time out to shoot the 2010 Laich family photo, Kurstin!

Happy Holidays from Chris Laich Music Services to all of our fantastic clients, friends, and wedding industry colleagues!

Chris Laich Music Services Equipment Set Up

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Not all the weddings Chris Laich Music Services deejays for are at event venues like hotels, museums, and historic mansions. Some are at private residences!

In these cases, since we’ll be working at a new venue, our experience and one-on-one interaction with our client are critical. Our expertise ensures that Chris Laich Music Services always comes prepared for any situation to provide excellent sound while keeping the visibility of our equipment to a minimum. The relationship we cultivate with our clients means that we know what they expect and always keep their satisfaction a priority.

Chris Laich Music Services provided music for Jessica and Tom’s wedding in The Plains, Virginia at a private, over 200-acre estate. We snapped a few pictures of our wireless Bose speakers set up for cocktails, the reception, and their ceremony.

As you can see, it was a really neat wedding with a cocktail lounge! Of course, our pictures don’t do the wedding, planned by Amy Jones of Engaging Affairs, any justice. Luckily, Greg Gibson, Jessica and Tom’s photographer, sent us some amazing pictures, and we’ll be posting those Thursday!

Wedding at the Chesapeake Bay Hyatt

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Earlier this week, you saw the pictures we took of the Chris Laich Music Services wireless Bose set-up for Adrienne and Daniel’s wedding at the Chesapeake Bay Hyatt. Now we’ve got pictures from their photographer, Greg Gibson, and some details to share!

Greg, one of DC’s best photographers, captured the joy, delight, and fun of Adrienne and Daniel’s celebration! Greg couldn’t have been a better choice. His incredible body of work includes that of a professional, Pulitzer prize-winning photojournalist covering everything from the 1992 presidential campaign to the Monica Lewinsky scandal as a staff photographer with the Washington Bureau of the Associated Press. His eye for capturing the moment and skill behind the lens was perfect for a wedding with a dance floor that wouldn’t quit.

Adrienne and Daniel’s ceremony was supposed to be outside on the water, but the weather had other ideas, and rain moved everything indoors. No worries, though! The couple flowed with the change of plans, we moved our mics and speakers into the Cambridge Hyatt’s Ballroom, and things went perfectly

Adrienne and Daniel then rocked out their first dance to the sound of “Please Baby” by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and then the timeless “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole for a combination father/daughter, mother/son dance.

After the Hora, we opened it up with “Billie Jean” and the dance floor didn’t stop moving the whole night!

Thank you, Adrienne and Daniel, for choosing Chris Laich Music Services and Greg Gibson for sharing his fantastic images!

Cambridge Hyatt at the Chesapeake Bay

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Historic mansions, stately buildings and gracious country estates aren’t the only wedding venues in the Washington, DC area. We’ve got some of the most gorgeous waterfront around, too – Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. The Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay isn’t just your average hotel – it’s also a golf resort, spa, and marina. Right on the Chesapeake Bay, the Hyatt in Cambridge, Maryland is great place for a destination wedding that is just outside DC’s back door.

When Chris Laich Music Service was there a little while ago for an event, we snapped a few shots of our wireless Bose speakers set up for our client’s cocktail hour and reception. As usual, we were careful to keep everything as unobtrusive as possible without compromising sound coverage or clarity, and as you can see our equipment blends right in!

Of course our images aren’t nearly as good as the ones Greg Gibson took – check back this Thursday to see them!
